CLI developed the Awards for Outstanding Catholic Leadership in 2000 to recognize people in the Catholic Church whose exemplary leadership in the family, the workplace, the community and the Church has been inspired by their Catholic faith. The lay, clergy and religious men and women named this year have inspired and led others, serving as role models for future Church and lay leaders.  More information about each honoree can be found below.

The 2010 Awards will be held on Friday, November 12, 2010 at the Drexelbrook in Drexel Hill, PA. Tickets are available for $150 per person. Helen Alvaré - In addition to being a Law Professor at the Catholic University of America and Chair of Cardinal Bevilacqua's Commission for the Protection of Children and Clerical Conduct, Helen is a devoted wife and mother of three young children. A native of St. Katharine of Siena Parish in Wayne, PA, Helen served the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops as the Director of Pro-Life Activities for ten years and was listed as one of Time Magazine's Top 50 leaders in America under the age of 40.

Sister Maria Kateri de Francisco, S.V. - In 1993, Sr. Maria was pursuing medical school and planned to be a doctor. As one of the U.S. delegates to the International Forum at World Youth Day in Denver that year, she met the Holy Father and the late Cardinal John O'Connor and realized her calling to religious life. A native of St. Gabriel Parish in South Philadelphia and a graduate of the Catholic Leadership Institute, Sr. Maria is the Director of Novices and Local Superior for the Sisters of Life in New York. She has devoted her life to spreading the Gospel of Life in every community she touches.

Archbishop Edwin F. O'Brien - As the leader of the Archdiocese for the Military Services, Archbishop O'Brien oversees 500 Catholic chaplains worldwide, who provide spiritual support for the 1.5 million Catholic women and men, and their families, serving our country throughout the world. His Archdiocese also supports patients at 172 V.A. Hospitals. Spiritual leadership has been especially critical in light of the current turbulence in our world. A native of New York City, he is the former Rector of Dunwoody Seminary and current Chairman of the Board for the North American College in Rome.

John J. Quindlen - As a husband for 49 years, father of five and grandfather of 14, Jack exemplifies Catholic leadership in his family. Jack has also shared these skills with the Church at St. Mary Magdalen Parish in Media and in his many roles with the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and the Diocese of Wilmington; with his community through his directorship on various Boards including founding Chair of the Delaware Community Foundation; and with his workplace, where he retired as a Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for DuPont.
