CLI developed the Awards for Outstanding Catholic Leadership in 2000 to recognize people in the Catholic Church whose exemplary leadership in the family, the workplace, the community and the Church has been inspired by their Catholic faith. The lay, clergy and religious men and women named this year have inspired and led others, serving as role models for future Church and lay leaders.  More information about each honoree can be found below.

The 2010 Awards will be held on Friday, November 12, 2010 at the Drexelbrook in Drexel Hill, PA. Tickets are available for $150 per person. Pat DeAngelis is President and CEO of Nazareth Hospital in Philadelphia. She and her husband, Tony, have two sons. Pat started her career as a nurse and now runs a hospital that was rated #1 for stroke care in the state three years in a row and one of the Top 100 ICU/CCU’s in the nation. She has faithfully integrated the Catholic charism of the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth in leading the hospital, incorporating prayer at the beginning of every shift and every meeting. Pat has been active in revitalizing the community, recently opening a new Outpatient Rehabilitation Center in the neighborhood. A melanoma and breast cancer survivor, Pat is committed to bringing, “the love and compassion of Jesus Christ to every patient and employee in her hospital.”



Sr. Mary Rose McGeady, D.C. has exhibited tremendous faith, leadership, and an undying commitment to young people throughout her career. She is a former provincial of the Daughters of Charity, where she was responsible for the work of her order in 9 hospitals, 17 schools, 5 child care agencies and other responsibilities throughout 11 States. She was an associate director of Catholic Charities in Brooklyn and in 1990, left to serve as President of Covenant House, the largest privately-funded childcare agency in the United States providing shelter and service to homeless and runaway youth. In her 13 year tenure, she expanded Covenant House from 12 cities to 21, including sites in Mexico, Nicaragua, Honduras, and Guatemala. She initiated job-training and life-planning programs to give kids real-life goals, such as obtaining a job and an apartment, and the means to reach them.



Jim Murray is a graduate of Our Mother of Sorrows, West Catholic, and Villanova University and the President of Jim Murray Ltd., a sports promotion and marketing firm. Jim was the general manager of the Philadelphia Eagles from 1974 to 1983, and helped assemble the 1980 Super Bowl team. Jim’s faith and compassion have always impacted his work. With the Eagles, he helped start the very successful Eagles Fly for Leukemia campaign and was a founder of the first Ronald McDonald House in Philadelphia to provide temporary homes, at little or no cost, for the families of children undergoing treatment for various illnesses at nearby hospitals. Today there are 243 Ronald McDonald Houses in 25 countries. Jim and his wife, Dianne, have five children and four grandchildren.

Fr. Frank Pavone is one the most prominent pro-life leaders in the nation. Ordained a priest of the Archdiocese of New York in 1988 by Cardinal O’Connor, he served in parish work for five years. In 1993, he became National Director for Priests for Life, where he travels around the country and throughout the world promoting a culture of life. In 1999, he was named one of the Top 100 Catholics of the Century. He is President of the National Pro-Life Religious Council and Pastoral Director and Chairman of the Board of Rachel’s Vineyard, an international retreat program for post-abortion healing. In 2004, Fr. Frank was granted permission by Bishop John Yanta to be a priest of the Diocese of Amarillo, Texas in order to begin a new community of priests permanently dedicated to full time pro-life work.
