ALBUQUERQUE, NM, February 6, 2009 – Catholic Leadership Institute (CLI) received the 2009 President’s Distinguished Service Award from the National Organization for Continuing Education of Roman Catholic Clergy (NOCERCC) on Wednesday, February 18, 2009.  The award was presented at NOCERCC’s 2009 National Convention in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Established in 1994, this award is presented to an individual or organization that champions ongoing formation for priests and presbyterates. Catholic Leadership Institute was recognized for their work with clergy, through the program Good Leaders, Good Shepherds (GLGS).  Good Leaders, Good Shepherds is CLI’s two-year, leadership training program for priests.

Currently, Catholic Leadership Institute is ministering to the bishops and presbyterates of 30 United States dioceses, including the major metropolitan Archdioceses of Philadelphia, Boston, Denver, St. Louis, Galveston-Houston and Detroit. “The Good Leaders, Good Shepherds program is strengthening the skills of over 50 of our pastors so they can more effectively, confidently and joyfully fulfill their administrative responsibilities,” said Cardinal Adam Maida, Archbishop Emeritus of Detroit, MI.

Accepting the award on behalf of Catholic Leadership Institute was President and CEO, Matthew Manion and National Director for Leadership Development, Rev. Bill Dickinson.  “As our ministry at Catholic Leadership Institute continues to grow, we are blessed to witness the positive impact competent, confident and energetic Catholic leaders are having in parishes across the country.  We are humbled by this award and grateful to NOCERCC for their continued support of our mission,” said Fr. Bill Dickinson.

Previous recipients of the award have included Dr. Dean Hoge of The Catholic University of America, Washington, DC (2005) and Most. Rev. William S. Skylstad, USCCB President, Spokane, WA (2006).  Good Leaders, Good Shepherds is designed to equip clergy with the relevant, practical and pastoral leadership skills necessary to effectively shepherd a parish.
