EXTON, PA, April 1, 2009 – Catholic Leadership Institute (CLI) is pleased to announce its partnership with the Diocese of Joliet, IL, marking the 30th U.S. Diocese to partner with the organization to deliver Good Leaders, Good Shepherds (GLGS), CLI’s two-year clergy leadership development program.
In 2006, Catholic Leadership Institute introduced Good Leaders, Good Shepherds nationally after piloting the program from 2003-2005 in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. Today Catholic Leadership Institute hopes to bring GLGS to as many U.S. dioceses as possible. “We are blessed to be ministering with so many dioceses throughout the country. Our mission is to help shepherds recognize their God-given potential and develop their leadership skills so they can effectively and confidently lead their faith communities in carrying out the mission of Jesus Christ and the Catholic Church,” said Fr. Bill Dickinson, National Director of Leadership Development.
With the support of the bishops and their presbyterates, over 800 priests from around the country have enrolled in the program. “The Archdiocese of Denver is richer in both priestly ministry and fraternity because of our partnership with Catholic Leadership Institute. I am grateful for the impact that Good Leaders, Good Shepherds has made in the lives of our pastors and parochial vicars,” said Most Rev. Charles J. Chaput, OFM Cap., Archbishop of Denver, CO.
Good Leaders, Good Shepherds is designed to equip clergy with the relevant, practical and pastoral leadership skills necessary to shepherd a parish and support the governing office of their priesthood. During the two-year program priests learn about the various contexts in which they lead, and specific skill sets within each context that will help them lead most effectively. Catholic Leadership Institute is also preparing to deliver complementary leadership skill building training to parish and diocesan staff members in the spring of this year.
