Tom Heule is the Founding Partner of Denargo Capital, LLC in Denver, CO and will join CLI’s Board of Directors in May 2009. Tom and his wife Lisa have given selflessly of their time, talent and treasure to support so many Catholic causes including Catholic Leadership Institute.
Tom recently sat down with CLI to share why he felt called to get involved with the mission of building Catholic leaders for today and tomorrow.
I was introduced to Tim Flanagan at a Legatus conference several years ago. I was speaking to another individual about how I felt we needed to provide similar management training and leadership skills for our parish priest. I asked him “who is doing this and how can we get this going?” He pointed to Tim Flanagan and said “it’s already being done!”
Once I had a chance to observe the training I noticed that the format looked a lot like the formal leadership training I received in the corporate world. I am an alum of the Wharton School of Business, so my expectation of training and leadership training specifically, follows that corporate model. After I had the opportunity to observe I said oh “I’ve seen this before!” It was a rewarding intersection of my personal and professional experiences.
The most exciting thing about Catholic Leadership Institute’s Good Leaders, Good Shepherds program is that it really works! Catholic Leadership Institute is bringing training and leadership development skills that are widely available in Fortune 500 organizations to a very worthy group of individuals: parish priests. These men are managing and providing leadership in the most important organization on the planet – the Catholic Church.
I hold the basic belief that we each have a vocation and a ministry within the Church. Our task is to glorify God by using the gifts and talents he’s given to us to further His mission here on earth. My work with Catholic Leadership Institute is just one way I hope to accomplish His mission.
