EXTON, PA, May 11, 2009 – Catholic Leadership Institute (CLI) is pleased to announce the national launch of Tending the Talents, a two-year leadership formation curriculum for diocesan and parish leaders. Sixty individuals (parish staff and diocesan leaders) from the Archdiocese of Detroit gathered at Sacred Heart Major Seminary on May 6 and 7 to begin the initiative, which serves as a complementary curriculum to Catholic Leadership Institute’s clergy leadership program, Good Leaders, Good Shepherds.
Tending the Talents was developed to support Catholic Leadership Institute’s ongoing efforts to build vibrant faith communities committed to sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ. “The program seeks to strengthen the overall quality of ministerial relationships and increase the quality of parish life and leadership,” said Fr. Bill Dickinson, National Director of Leadership Development.
The formation curriculum complements the primary leadership skills and practices delivered in Good Leaders, Good Shepherds. Therefore, any parish or diocese with priests enrolled or graduated from Good Leaders, Good Shepherds is eligible to participate. “Tending the Talents is creating a healthier institutional Church by facilitating self-awareness and effective communication skills among parish staff and diocesan leaders. I truly believe that the investment in the parish staff will only increase the pastor’s effectiveness exponentially,” said Heidi J. Peckham, LMHC, Secretary for Pastoral Ministries in the Diocese of Orlando and Tending the Talents pilot participant.
The curriculum of Tending the Talents focuses on five different areas of leadership development: leadership of self, one-to-one, team, organizational and leadership in the Kingdom of God. Over the course of a two year period, participants will work with Catholic Leadership Institute trainers (Learning Leaders) and their pastors to develop as confident and competent leaders.
Currently Catholic Leadership Institute is ministering to the bishops and presbyterates of 31 United States dioceses
