EXTON, PA, July 1, 2009 – Catholic Leadership Institute (CLI) is pleased to announce that fifteen priests from the Archdiocese of Philadelphia will complete Good Leaders, Good Shepherds (GLGS), CLI’s two-year clergy leadership development program on Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at Malvern Retreat House, Malvern, PA.  The evening will commence with a prayer service led by Bishop Daniel Thomas, dinner and ceremony at the General Warren Inne, Malvern, PA hosted by Matthew Manion, President & CEO of Catholic Leadership Institute.

With the support of Cardinal Justin Rigali, the participating priests will be the first class from the diocese to complete the program.  “Good Leaders, Good Shepherds provides an opportunity for priests to reflect on some important aspects of their priestly ministry, which I pray will help them to be more effective shepherds in meeting their pastoral responsibilities,” said His Eminence, Cardinal Justin Rigali, Archbishop of Philadelphia, PA.

Along with the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, Catholic Leadership Institute is ministering to the bishops and presbyterates of an additional thirty-four United States dioceses, including the major metropolitan Archdioceses of Denver, St. Louis, Galveston-Houston and Detroit.  “We are blessed to be ministering with the good shepherds of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.  Our mission is to help priests recognize their God-given potential and develop their leadership skills so they can effectively and confidently lead their faith communities in carrying out the mission of Jesus Christ and the Catholic Church,” said Fr. Bill Dickinson, National Director of Leadership Development.

The prayer service will begin at 5:00pm with a dinner and ceremony immediately following.  The evening will include testimonials from priest participants Msgr. Edward Deliman, Fr. Thomas Higgins and Fr. James Oliver.

Good Leaders, Good Shepherds is designed to equip clergy with the relevant, practical and pastoral leadership skills necessary to shepherd a parish and support the governing office of their priesthood. During the two-year program priests learn about the various contexts in which they lead, and specific skill sets within each context that will help them lead most effectively. Catholic Leadership Institute also offers a complementary leadership skill building training program for parish and diocesan staff members entitled, Tending the Talents.
