8.28.06 - With support from the Ryan Family Foundation and in collaboration with Catholic Leadership Institute, a second group from DeSales University began their Catholic Hero’s Journey on August 17-18. The program integrates the Salesian charism of the university.
DeSales Oblate Rev. Tom Dailey, O.S.F.S., director of the Salesian Center for Faith and Culture, explains, “The Salesian charism holds up the belief that holiness is for every person, not just monks and nuns, and that the devout life can and should be lived in the midst of worldly professions. We believe that his saintly wisdom, coupled with the successful dynamics of the CLI programs, will offer our best students the opportunity to grow in unique and lasting ways.” Dailey and two other Oblates, Rev. Peter Leonard, O.S.F.S. and Rev. Doug Burns, O.S.F.S. participated in the year-long program alongside the first cohort and will continue with the second one this year. The group will finish in May with a closing retreat.
Junior Ryan Baptista, one of the participants in this year’s cohort thinks the retreat has gotten the group off to a great start. According to Baptista, “The retreat weekend was an awesome experience. It did a lot to bring our group together and form some strong bonds between us that will really help us to be ready for the year ahead of us. Because of the retreat, I feel like we’re a solid, bonded group that’s ready to take on anything together.”
CLI President and CEO, Matthew Manion is excited to continue helping the university share the Salesian spirit. “Catholic colleges are each grounded in such a rich and unique spirit, such as the Salesian spirituality,” says Manion, “Catholic Leadership Institute is proud to partner with the Oblates at DeSales University and the Sisters at Immaculata in order to help pass along their beautiful spirituality to their students.”
