Did you ever have one of those weeks where it seems like there is a giant worldwide conspiracy just to frustrate you? Last week, there were no major incidents, no emergencies, no big fights. However, if you encountered me on Friday afternoon, you might have thought otherwise. All the shortcuts my mind could use to connect a bunch of small wakes eventually amounted to a tsunami of discouragement and irritation. Thankfully, a good friend gently reminded me of my weekly Lenten promise to spend 30 minutes in adoration. As I sat before the Eucharist, still fidgeting, I picked up a pamphlet in the pew – "Starting your week with Jesus." It made me think, what if I had started the thread of my week with the Lord? What if, instead of allowing my mind to draw links between the events of my week, I intentionally invited God to show me how he was weaving and working through each of them? I bet I might have had the chance to see more than just the frustration. We plan our calendars for the week, why not our perspective? Why not give our minds a roadmap to follow, instead of letting them wonder? We might uncover something richer than even the best conspiracy theory.
