Flipping the Question: A Bold New Missionary Mindset for the Church is a three-part audio narrative series exploring the collaboration between Catholic Leadership Institute and the Archdiocese of Philadelphia that led to the development of a new Missionary Hub model.

Episode 2 takes listeners behind the scenes of one of the many listening sessions organized by the Archdiocese of Philadelphia's Trust and Hope Initiative, led by Dan Cellucci at Little Flower High School.

As part of his mission to build up the Church in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, Archbishop Nelson J. Pérez and his team prioritized listening sessions designed to hear directly from the faithful and gather feedback on the Trust and Hope Initiative. Some sessions brought together more than 100 Catholics, while others offered a more intimate setting for conversation. In this episode, Dan Cellucci takes listeners behind the scenes of one session he facilitated at Little Flower High School.

Across these gatherings, participants reflected on Archbishop Pérez’s call for a “pastoral change of heart” and considered what it would take to build a more missionary and welcoming Church. Catholics like Mary Laver and Jared McPhillips shared their own faith journeys, along with their concerns, hopes, and aspirations for the future of the Archdiocese.

Ultimately, these sessions were about more than allowing Archdiocesan leaders an opportunity to hear from the faithful. They also allowed the faithful to listen to one another—to hear different experiences, recognize shared hopes, and begin imagining what the future of the Church in Philadelphia could look like.

Those conversations, marked by both uncertainty and anticipation, would ultimately help shape the Missionary Hub model.
