A Letter to My Brother Priests

Eius has given priests across the country the ability to renew their priesthood and lead with confidence. One priest who has been impacted by the service is Fr. Robert Cooper, a priest of the Archdiocese of New Orleans.

Dear Brother,

When you first stepped forward on your ordination day, you likely felt a profound mix of holy zeal and quiet trembling. We answered the call to lay down our lives for Christ and His Church, willing to pour ourselves out completely for our flocks. But as the years move on, the sheer volume of administrative demands, pastoral crises, and constant availability can slowly shift our focus from the joy of ministry to the grind of survival.

We can easily find ourselves leading on empty.

I remember reaching a point in my own priesthood where I realized that while my desire to serve was as strong as ever, my toolset for effective leadership and my personal reserves were stretched thin. We are often trained well in theology, but leading a modern parish community requires something deeper: intentional leadership, healthy boundaries, and a sustainable foundation for our own spiritual and human wellness.

That is where the Eius program through the Catholic Leadership Institute became a true turning point for me.

Eius gave me the rare, sacred space to step back, take a breath, and evaluate not just how I was pastoring, but how I was living as a man of God. It provided practical, transformative tools to help lead my parish with clarity and vision, rather than simply reacting to the urgent needs of the day. More importantly, it re-anchored me in my identity as a beloved son of the Father, surrounding me with a brotherhood of priests who shared the exact same struggles and hopes. It invited me into "something more"—more clarity, more joy, and more authentic balance.

I want to invite you to consider that same "something more" for your own priesthood. Stepping into Eius is an investment in the long-term fruitfulness of your ministry and your well-being.
